A tribute to a true comedy legend comes to the Acorn Theatre in Worksop this month as Hambledon Productions present Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show.
And we have two pairs of tickets to give away for the show, which marks 30 years since Tommy Cooper died.
Hambledon were last in town with their comedy An Apple A Day and group founder John Hewer is back as the star of this one-man show.
And he admits, taking on the mantle of Tommy Cooper i both challenging and rewarding.
“About two years ago, I read in a biography that a whopping percentage of the man’s success and career was made on the circuit of venues like e working mens clubs and rotary clubs up and down the country,” he said.
“The various series and clips that survive of his performances is predominantly from his declining years and very little survives of his climb to notoriety in the 50s and 60s, “
“It was these two factors that made me contact the Estate, which in turn got me in touch with Tommy’s daughter Vicky, who has approved the script and given us her best wishes.
“Playing Tommy is a huge challenge, but I’ve had some fantastic plaudits from fans old and new, including some of Tommy’s friends.”
