THE COUNTRY’S top touring opera company are set to perform three breathtaking shows in Lincoln next week - and we have tickets to give away to each show.
For thirty years, English Touring Opera has been touring the UK.
During those years, the company has had the good fortune to work with the cream of international and home-grown talent.
In the 80s and 90s, conductors like Stephen Barlow, David Parry, Ivor Bolton and Marin Andre worked with directors such as Richard Jones and Declan Donnellan, and singers like Vivian Tierney, Alison Hagley, Sarah Connolly, Mary Plazas, Susan Gritton, Susan Bickley, William Dazeley, Jonathan Veira, and Christopher Purvis. Now, the acclaimed touring company are set for three performances at Lincoln’s Theatre Royal.
On Saturday 29th October, they present The Fairy Queen - a straneg and delicate masque that recreates the enchanted world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Sung in original English, this production imagines the story set in a military convalescent hospital during World War One, in a feast for the eyes and ears that includes dancers and acrobats alongside singers.
On Sunday 30th October, they’ll be performing Flavio in English translation - in a mix of comedy and tragedy that tells a story of bitter rivalry between families with a pair of star-crossed lovers.
Ending their residency at the Theatre Royal, the English Touring Opera present Xerxes sun in English translation on Monday 31st October. This new production of one of Handel’s most celebrated masterpieces recasts the Persian king as a glamorous prince-turned-pilot in the Battle of Britain, jealous of his brother’s stronger sex appeal.
