LOCAL dancers are celebrating after recently passing a top exam.
Youngsters from the Wendy Foster Theatre School who have recently gained ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) examinations in Modern Theatre and Tap Dancing.
Examinations taken ranged from grades four and six to vocational grades Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate and all gained a merit or distinction.
“Also deserving a special mention are sisters Holly and Libby Girdham who attend weekly ballet classes in Leeds and Manchester with the Royal Ballet Associates Programme,” said dance teacher Jo Woolley.
“Plus Charlotte Smith and Lucy Fairchild who attend the Louise Brown Scholarship classes in York with the Royal Academy of Dance. All of these classes are awarded after a tough audition process and are attended by aspiring dancers from across the wider region.”
Jo continued: “I’m very proud of them all. They have done very will so they deserve this recognition for everything they have put in.”
“As they progress through the levels it gets hard and takes commitment. Some of these girls want to dance for a career so this is a great route for them to take.”
She added: “Most of our girls start at the age of three, so we take them at any age and help them progress.”
