Bowlers from Worksop and Creswell picked up their first national title last week, at the English Bowling Federation’s bowls championships.
The Skegness tournament saw John Heppell, from Worksop Cricket and Sports, Flat Green Bowls Section, and Joan Mousley from Creswell Bowls Club, win the senior mixed pairs competition.
Heppel, also playing with fellow club member, John Holmes, nearly pulled off a double.
But they lost in the final of the senior men’s pairs.
Another bowler from Worksop, Cricklet and Sports, Dave Redfern reached the final of the senior men’s singles.
Unfortunately Redfern lost by just the one shot.
Both the Workso and Creswell clubs affiliate to the Derbyshire Bowling Federation and the points gained from these successes helped Derbyshire to become the most successful county at the championships.
