Following a long period of negotiation with Anglian Water Group, East Retford Rugby Union Football Club have secured their long term future at Ordsall Road by acquiring the freehold of the majority of the land on the site.

As well as now owning the greater part of the field where they are now sited, they also own the wooded area to the rear and the field adjacent to the golf course which was previously used as a football and athletics facility by the local schools.

Commenting on the acquisition, Rugby Club President Chris Mounsey said: “It’s been a long hard slog to get where we wanted to be but we have at last achieved our goal and can now concentrate on developing the playing areas and plan for the next phase of development which is a new Club House and changing facility. This acquisition gives the Club a great opportunity to provide improved facilities to enable the young people of Retford and the surrounding area to play rugby and other sports on our freehold land. Anglian Water Group has been very supportive throughout the negotiations and I would like to thank them for adopting such a positive attitude towards the Rugby Club and local sport in general. We shall continue to lease the rest of the frontage from them for the foreseeable future. Jones and Co who are one of our major sponsors, have acted for us throughout the negotiations as far as the legal aspect was concerned and they also have been most diligent and supportive and for that we thank them.”
