Locals turned out in force on Sunday, for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Retford.

Over 100 ‘milers’ of all ages were sponsored to run one, three or six miles around Kings Park.

The day was a huge success with friends, families and work mates all joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2014.

Highlights included a three legged mile, runners in sports relief gear and other costumes, and a dog completed the mile and received a medal.

There was also an 83-year-old lady who completed the six mile run and was fully supported by her family.

Support on the day came from volunteers from the Elizabethan Academy and Sam Harrison from Retford Oaks, as well as Tom Bradley and Sam Kay Butler Hughes, who provided a disco free of charge for the event.

Kathryn Kitson from Retford Leisure Centre provided exercise to music as a warm up for all the milers.

Brett Frost, sports development officer from Bassetlaw Council said: “It was an amazing day. We feel so proud knowing that the money raised here today will help people living really tough lives right here in Retford, the UK and across the world.”
