The second round of the Sports Centre League took place at Watermeadows, Mansfield, with Retford Swimming Club youngsters in action.
The local swimmers were pitted against their rivals from Worksop, Bramcote, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood.
As expected Sherwood dominated from the outset and despite a win in the first event, the 15/u 100m IM from Tom Atkinson, the Retford team struggled to keep pace.
Undeterred the squad worked hard to produce personal bests.
But by the halfway stage Retford were in fourth place on 82 points behind leaders Sherwood on 111; Bramcote on 97 and Worksop on 89.
Mansfield and Newark were trailing on 61 and 41 points respectively.
The only other win of the evening for Retford came in the second half from Oliver Taylor in the 13/u 100m Freestyle.
With only the relays and Cannon remaining Retford worked tirelessly to catch Worksop.
However, despite closing the gap slightly, the lead their Bassetlaw neighbours held was too great and the final points of the evening were as follows: 1st Sherwood 217 points; 2nd Bramcote 189; 3rd Worksop 175; 4th Retford 167; 5th Mansfield 115; 6th Newark 76.
With four rounds remaining Retford are currently third in the standings, one point behind Worksop Dolphins Swimming Club.
A number of Retford Swimming Club swimmers achieved personal bests at Watermeadows last weekend.
