First taste of match action

The first group stage of the Bassetlaw Schools mini-cricket championship gave many local youngsters their first taste of competitive action.

Holders, Ryton Park, inspired by brothers Saeed and Maydhi Ahmed were too strong for St Anne’s but qualified for the next stage in second place after losing to St John’s.

Redlands were comfortable qualifiers in Group One and are joined in the next stage by Sir Edmund Hillary.

Everton and Gamston showed smaller schools can compete on level terms and cruised through their groups.

Gringley, Blyth, the B teams of St John’s, Redlands and St Anne’s and Ryton Park C are also through.
