BOTH Retford and Ordsall Bridon got off to the best possible start, in the Bassetlaw Championship’s opening weekend.

Retford took the full 20 points with a 39-run win over Killamarsh at Sheffield Road, while Ordsall Bridon beat Blidworth by four wickets.

Darren Spooner (58) and Pascal Broadley (44) batted well for Retford in their 215 all out, with Spooner also taking 3 for 45 and Jonathan Cooke excelling with the ball with figures of 5 for 21 as Killamarsh were dismissed for 176.

Rob McLeod’s knock of 81 was the highlight for Ordsall Bridon, while Marc Brewer contributed 62 to their total of 195 for 6.

Blidworth were all out for 194.

Also in the Championship, North Wheatley had a 20-point win after dismissing Marshalls for 171, and scoring 172 for 3 themselves thanks to Jonathan Loates’ unbeaten 138.

Everton beat Harthill by three wickets in Division One, Ordsall Bridon II had a winning draw against Grassmoor in Division Two, and in the same league Retford II lost to Thoresby Park by eight wickets.

On Saturday Retford host North Wheatley with Leverton, Ordsall Bridon are at home to Notts and Arnold Amateur and Everton travel to Papplewick and Linby II.
