The 2014 Bassetlaw Cricket League reached its conclusion on Saturday with plenty of drama throughout the divisions.

In Division One Firbeck fell just seven points shy of promotion, despite picking up 17 from a draw with West Indian Cavaliers II.

Retford’s weather draw at home to Whitwell handed them 10 points and secured second place in the table, behind Edwinstowe and head of Firbeck.

Adam Dutton (50) and Adam Walker (70) starred with the bat, while Nathan Parry took 4 for 22 for Firbeck.

Whitwell, meanwhile, survived a relegation scare by a five point margin.

There was lots of local interest in the Division Six promotion race, with Blyth winning the title by 47 points, Aston Hall III finishing third and Rockware in fourth.

The Division Seven season ended with Firbeck II relegated, although they picked up 20 points on the last day when opponents Sherwood II conceded the game.

Woodsetts II finished fourth in the table.

Their third team were third in Division Eight and lost out on promotion to Clumber Park IV by six points.

The last game of the season cost Woodsetts dearly, losing by 37 runs to Mansfield Hosiery Mills IV, while Clumber Park had a 20-point victory when they beat Worksop III by 25 runs.

Clumber Park were 94 all out, but their bowlers rescued the situation, skittling Worksop for just 69 as Owen Jervis (5 for 15) and Neil Tilley (3 for 0) came to the fore with the ball.
