Toft Newton’s new season got underway on 1st February and already the fish are coming out in numbers, with rainbows short of double figures – but bigger are there for the taking.

Whether you’re a novice or experienced fly angler, Toft has something for everyone.

Get down there and give it a go.

Chris Line has been on top form again this week, winning both veterans matches at Hallcroft.

He pipped Notts AA’s Terry Picksley to the post on Monday but had a convincing win during Thursday’s event, beating the runner-up Nigel Wood, by 40lb.

Toft Newton: 1st February marked the start of a New Season at Toft and they’re off to a good start.

Seventy-eight rods caught 421 fish, giving a rod average of 5.4.

Ray Jeffrey managed a 6 ½ lb rainbow and Neil Deakin landed a huge fish of 9lb 12oz.

John Tattersfield came out on top during Sunday’s Winter league series, achieving 25 points after catching 4 fish to weigh in 8 ½ lb.

All manner of tactics have taken fish throughout the week, with Intermediates and Lures or Floaters and Diawl Bachs taking the majority of the fish.

The fish have stayed high in the water and even when the fish aren’t showing the top 2-3 feet has been the place to present your fly.

One boat is still available for the Scierra Pairs on Sunday the 27th of April.

This is a great way to have a go at competition fishing with relaxed rules and a friendly atmosphere.
