Kiveton Park Colliery Cricket Club have declared 2013 a successful year for their senior section.
While the first team cemented their place in mid-table in the Bassetlaw Championship after a very strong finish, the seconds won Division Three of the Bassetlaw League and the Sunday side won promotion from Division Seven of the Mansfield and District League.
The club’s Richard Grainger heaped praise on the second string.
“The seconds deserve special praise for a very successful season, winning the league on the final day of the season with a convincing six wicket victory against near neighbours Waleswood.”
Paul Clark took 7 for 25 on the final day to ensure the Stone Close club didn’t experience final day heartbreak after a lot of hard work during the season.
Grainger added: “All season the second team have been one of the pacesetters in the league, aided by an excellent start. Of the 22 league games played they won 16, and achieved the most bowling points during the season and the third most batting points.”
“There were also some noteable individual performances during the year.”
Chris Spivey was one of those notable performers, as he finished as the third leading run scorer in the division and Tom Haslam finished fifth. Jonathan Cushing and James Gilbert finished as the joint sixth leading wicket takers.
Grainger said: “The seconds will now be looking forward to the challenge of Division Two in 2014 where they will get the chance to play their cricket on many Premier League and Championship grounds. Likewise the Sunday side are excited about their new challenge next season. Their aim of moving up the divisions in the Mansfield and District League is progressing well.”
“Hopefully 2014 will be just as successful for us.”
