Lindrick Golf Club not only celebrated a one-two finish at the Omega European Masters in Switzerland on Sunday, four of their members made the cut in a European Tour event.
The remarkable feat came thanks to the in-form Danny Willett, who won the tournament by a shot from runner-up and fellow Sheffield golfer Matthew Fitzpatrick.
Lee Westwood, who finished 37th, and Mark Foster (T63) completed the foursome of professionals who call themselves members of the golf club just outside Worksop.
Lindrick professional John King said it was a special weekend for the club, and one that would inspire the younger members especially.
“It was fantastic,” he said.
“We had four players who made the cut, and a one-two finish.
“It’s quite unique, amazing really, to get that, at that level.
“We’ve obviously had Lee and Mark from this area up there for a long time but now we have this new breed of player come through from the Sheffield area.
“It’s wonderful for youngsters coming into the game, they’ve got these players to look up to, they can see it’s achievable to get to that level.”
Fitzpatrick, 20, has renewed his association with Lindrick in the last couple of years.
But Willett, who was tied for sixth at The 144th Open at St Andrews, will soon be even more closely linked to the club.
King said: “They both come down here and practice.
“Danny has been a member for three or four years.
“He’s moving in at the side of the course in the near future, so he’ll be using the facilities a lot more.”
In Switzerland last weekend Willett finished 17 under, pipping Fitzpatrick with a final round of 65.
Worksop’s Westwood would have undoubtedly finished much higher up the leaderboard had it not been for a 10 at the par five 14th hole.
He had to settle for a two over par round of 72, and finished the tournament 14 shots behind ISM stablemate Willett.
Foster, meanwhile, also suffered on Sunday.
The Worksop Golf Club product was level par going into the last round, but shot a 74 and finished four over.
This week the 39-year-old will be back in action at the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play event at Murcar Links, Aberdeen.
