Dinnington Town Under 14s have secured promotion, despite losing out in their final game of the season.

The youngsters knew a win over visitors Crosspool would seal second in the league, but results elsewhere went in their favour and even a 4-2 defeat couldn’t stop their promotion bid.

Dinnington looked nervous in the opening exchanges but took an early lead through Daniel Burke’s deflected cross.

Crosspool pegged them back just before half-time from a half volley.

Dinnington started the second half well but were hit with a sucker punch as a a cross looped over Matt Kriel.

Sam Eyong equalised for the hosts with an unstoppable shot, but Crosspool regained the lead minutes later with a speculative shot.

Crosspool were awarded a spot-kick and it was converted for a 4-2 scoreline.

However, both Treeton and Sheffield Rangers also losing, the defeat didn’t cost Dinnington and they were deservedly promoted to Division C.

A club spokesman said: “All the team can be immensely proud of everything they’ve achieved this season, the table doesn’t lie.”
