Small schools compensating

What the smaller schools lack in numbers on the roll, they very often compensate for it in enthusiasm and organisation – and by example, writes Jack Tarr.

Sturton-le-Steeple retained their league title when a George Hudson hat-trick, and goals from Jake Sykes, Charlie Wright and Holly Warner accounted for their 6-3 defeat of a brave young Mattersey team.

Sturton now visit Division Six leaders, Misson in the semi-finals of the Small Schools Champion of Champions Tournament.

East Markham will also be hosting Leverton.

The large schools Champions Tournament features Priory versus Sir Edmund Hillary and St. Anne’s and first division winners Prospect Hill, when the two schools will play out a dress rehearsal of their forthcoming Parry Cup final.

The Girls Champions tournament features Gamston and Redlands and Haggonfields versus Sir Edmund Hillary.

Ranby reached the final of the Small Schools Cup with a 3-1 defeat of North Wheatley and look forward to a final with Misson or Sturton.

Two wins in three days saw Haggonfields Girls overtake County finalists East Markham in the race for Division One.

In an end to end game a single goal from Cyra Green was enough to defeat East Markham while hat-tricks two days later from Cyra Green and Saskia Macefield gave them a clear victory over Clarborough, the league title and entry into the Champion of Champions Tournament.
