RETFORD United’s preparations for the new season continued with two friendly games in a week.
United travelled to troubled Evo-Stik league side Hucknall Town on Thursday and won 2-0.
An impressive display saw them return to Retford with their first victory of the pre-season.
United were on the attack immediately and found the net after 12 minutes, Nathan Millington driving past former United keeper James Lindley.
The United defence kept everything that Hucknall threw at them at bay, with stopper James Fisher largely untroubled, but when called upon he madea great save from Kieron Walker’s shot.
Retford continued to impress in the second half, with Brad Wells causing problems on the left wing, and it was he who grabbed the winning goal on 75 minutes.
On Saturday, they hosted Ollerton and took the lead after only a minute, Wells bursting into the box to fire home past Ryan Murphy in the Ollerton net for his second in two games.
Ollerton hit the foot of the post through Kieron Whalin’s free-kick, then on the half hour, Steve Kirkham levelled the score.
That was the end of the scoring in a keenly contested affair.
United faced Askern Villa last night as the Trader Guardian went to print.
