A trio of talented teens from Worksop are set to take centre stage after hitting the high notes in a national singing contest.

Owen Shutt, Jade Gordon and Abbie Howard, all aged 14 -15 and collectively known as ‘The Dukes’, beat off tough competition from thousands of hopefuls to make it through the regional finals of TeenStar, the UK’s only singing competition specifically for teens.

The Outwood Academy Valley pupils are now set to compete in the grand final of the contest, which is taking place at the Birmingham NEC on Saturday 19th July .

They stand the chance to win a £5,000 cash prize to develop their act, along with a ‘development package’ which will include help with social media marketing, image, and branding.

Owen said: “We’re really pleased to get this far.”

“We’ve got so much going on with our music and it’s really exciting.”

“We love performing live and can’t wait to get on stage again.”

The Dukes write original music and play their own instruments- Owen is a guitarist and singer, Jade is a singer and Abbie plays the keyboard.

The band describe their music as ‘a mixture of folk, acoustic and pop’ and were close friends for two years before embarking on their musical project.
