A Worksop company has contributed towards the construction of Heathrow’s Terminal 2 and helped secure 50 jobs.

Explore Industrial Park, in Steetley, Worksop, secured a £14m contract to manufacture and assemble a 1,300 space car park for Terminal 2 at Heathrow airport.

Explore Industrial Park is one of more than 140 UK businesses which have been involved in the terminals construction, drawing together expertise from across the country and supporting thousands of jobs.

All of the beams and columns for the five storey car park, as well as the nine lane access ramp, were made at Explore Industrial Park before being assembled on site.

The contract secured employment for 50 staff and led to the recruitment of 10 manufacturing trainees, a number of whom now have permanent roles.

Also three quarters of the raw materials, goods and services were supplied by firms within 50 miles of Steetley giving a wider boost to the local economy.

Bassetlaw MP, John Mann, said: “I’m delighted that Explore Manufacturing, a Bassetlaw based company, has played such a key role in the redevelopment of Heathrow’s Terminal 2.”

“Their expertise led to the multi million pound contract being awarded and has guaranteed 50 local jobs.”

“Securing a role in large infrastructure projects like this is vital for businesses in Bassetlaw.”

Terminal 2 is set to open in June 2014.
