Video footage shows the extreme conditions firefighters faced when a huge pile of railway sleepers went up in flames near Elkesley today (Saturday 31st August 2013).
Ten fire engines and their crews were tackling the blaze at its height.
They were called to the yard at Nottinghamshire Sleeper Company in Jockey Lane at 3pm.
Smoke from the smouldering scene could be seen for miles around.
Fire engines from Worksop, Retford, Elkesley, Tuxford, Mansfield, Edwinstowe, Newark and Collingham were among those which attended.
Ten crews were using five water jets to tackle the fire which encompassed a large quantity of railway sleepers.
Two lorries and a pile metal containers were also affected.
