The Resilience Programme is a groundbreaking drug and alcohol awareness and prevention programme for secondary schools, made possible by a £4.3m grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

It works to prevent drug and alcohol misuse by equipping young people with the knowledge, support and self-esteem they need to make good choices.

The Resilience Programme is run jointly between the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Addaction, one of the UK’s leading drug and alcohol charities.

Attendees were given an overview of the Resilience Programme which is delivered by people with experience of drug and alcohol misuse and features ‘Life Shares’, workshops, and training. One member of staff from a different Lincolnshire school said, of the programme: “It has been tremendous and a fantastic addition to our PSHE programme and keeping our children safe.”

“It’s all been very professional and efficient and has adapted to the needs of the school.”

“The children, staff and parents have all responded positively. I would thoroughly recommend it to any school.”

By the end of this academic year almost 5,000 young people will have received assemblies from the Resilience Programme across seven schools in Lincolnshire, including the Gainsborough Academy which has signed up for the next five years.

Mitch Winehouse, founder of the Foundation, spoke about the impact of substance misuse and the loss of his daughter, Amy. Mitch also presented ASDAN and Skills 4 Change certificates to students who participated in previous programmes.

Mitch said: “This what the Amy Winehouse Foundation is all about, educating young people, helping young people, helping parents better understand young people. It’s just tremendous. We are incredibly proud of our team in Lincolnshire and extremely grateful to Gainsborough Academy for welcoming us into their school.”
