Nobody was at home when fire ripped through an Edwinstowe house this morning (Monday 15th July).
But seven animals were rescued during the emergency operation in Beardsley Road shortly after 7am.
Notts Fire and Rescue has revealed that neighbours who dialled 999 initially thought there were people inside the property.
But it later became clear that the house was empty.
The blaze, which started in the first floor of a house, tore through the roof space and spread into the adjoining property.
Three dogs, two cats, a lizard and a rabbit were saved from the smoke and flames by firefighters.
Six fire engines attended to help fight the fire.
Fire investigations are still ongoing but the cause is thought to have been accidental.
