Delays on M1 after HGV crash

MOTORISTS travelling around the Worksop area suffered heavy delays after a serious crash on the M1.

At approximately 1.30am this morning (Thursday 10th March) there was a collision on the M1 motorway between Junction 29A and 29 in the Scutton Scarsdale area heading south.

A HGV lorry collided with several other vehicles and then crashed into the central barrier and the northbound carriageway.

Five people were taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital with a number of minor injuries and two seriously injured.

Delays of up to two hours are to be expected on the M1 where it is closed southbound between Junction 30, A616 to Sheffield and Junction 29, A617 to Chesterfield, with congestion to Junction 31, A57 to Sheffield.

Traffic is mounting between Worksop and Chesterfield.

The M1 entry slip road is also closed and delays are to be expected southbound at Junction 27, A608 to Hucknall.
