POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two road accidents on Friday left one man dead, another needing hospital treatment and an 89 year-old pensioner with a serious head injury.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two road accidents on Friday left one man dead, another needing hospital treatment and an 89 year-old pensioner with a serious head injury.

A Retford motorcyclist died after his motorbike was involved in a collision with a car on Mansfield Road, Upper Morton at 6.45pm.

Anthony Scott, 35, of Galway Crescent, died on Friday evening, when his Yamaha R6 motorbike was in collision with a Ford Escort.

The 21-year-old male driver of the Escort sustained head, chest and arm injuries and remained at Worksop's Bassetlaw Hospital for treatment. A 17-year-old female passenger in the car suffered minor injuries and was later released from Bassetlaw Hospital.

Earlier the same day, an 89-year-old Bawtry pensioner was involved in an accident at the junction of Doncaster Road and Martin Lane.

Cecil Robinson, of Lime Tree Crescent, was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary with a serious head injury.

The accident happened at about 4pm on Friday afternoon when a BMW – which had stopped to let Mr Robinson cross the road – was struck from behind by an Iveco van.

Police and an ambulance crew were quickly on the scene and the road remained closed until about 5.30pm.
