Retford man arrested after car hits house

Two men have been arrested after a car struck a house in a Newark village.

Police stopped a vehicle, seen to be driving suspiciously along the A616 at Muskham, just after 1am today (Friday).

The driver pulled the vehicle over momentarily, before speeding away from officers.

Moments later the Peugeot 306 was reported to have been in collision with a house in Mill Lane, Caunton, entering the building through the exterior wall at the front of the house into the lounge area.

The residents were in bed at the time and uninjured, but there has been extensive damage to the property, along with a Peugeot 206 Allure car, which was parked on the driveway.

The occupants of the car fled the scene, but were tracked to a nearby field by the police dog section and the helicopter unit, and arrested.

The two men, aged 22 and 20, from the Retford and Newark areas respectively, remain in police custody. They were uninjured in the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
