A great time was had by all who attended the open day for the Gainsborough Musical Theatre Society.
Members old and new, patrons along with council officials came together to celebrate two monumentus events for the 100-year-old society.
For the first time in their long history they now have their own premises in which they can rehearse as well as store costumes and props.
Even though they have been putting on shows and concerts since 1910 they have not had their own space, relying on hiring rehearsal rooms in various places around the town.
And the second event was a name change from Gainsborough Amateur Operatic Society (GAOS) to Gainsborough Musical Theatre Society (GMTS).
This was decided as the name change better reflects the activities of the group and to attract more members.
It is hoped these two exciting events will help the society go from strength to strength.
President Nona Perkins, gave a short speech thanking all who have helped the society over the years and taken part in productions, also members who helped getting the new premises ready and a toast was proposed.
The society is rehearsing for a Songs from the Shows concert at Blyton church on 11th October and an Old Time Music Hall concert at Morton Village Hall on 24th October.
The society’s next big production will be the pantomime Aladdin at the Trinity Arts Centre from 10th to 14th December.
Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for children and concessions.
Any children wishing to audition for Aladdin are invited along on Sunday 14th September between 1pm and 5pm.
Any interest parties who wish to audition, adults or children, should contact the society’s company secretary to register their interest by emailing email@example.com
