NEARLY 300 homes will be built on the former Bridon Ropes factory site in Ordsall after plans received the go-ahead.
G. C. Retford Ltd submitted an application to erect 277 homes at the land on Ollerton Road.
Bassetlaw Planning Committee officers unanimously voted to pass the application at a planning meeting on Wednesday night last week.
Part of the West Carr Road site is home to Bridon Cricket Club, who set to benefit from the works after the developers promised to lease the club back to them and to build them a brand-new pavilion.
When the plans were originally submitted residents vigorously contested the plans and 223 signatures were submitted to the council opposing the application.
Locals were concerned about the safety of residents during construction because of an influx of large vehicles. And Bridon Sports and Social Club, which is also on the site, argued that they had been left out of the plans.
But officers decided to give the housing development the green light. The applicants are set to donate 800,000 to the council to make up for taking up land that could be used for employment.
The council granted the application under the understanding that G. C. Retford Ltd meet 28 conditions, including dust control measures and a time limit condition.
