Notts Fire and Rescue Service is offering funding of up to £150 for organisations wanting to run fire safety events on Older People’s Day on 1st October.

Funding applications must be made by 4pm on Friday 6 September.

The events must be for Notts people aged 60 or over, with a theme of ‘Full of life’ - the theme of Older People’s Day.

The money is being made available as part of the Service’s work to improve fire safety for older people, as they are more at risk from fires than other age groups.

Community groups, voluntary organisations and housing providers are eligible for the grants.

Chris Hooper, engagement and partnership manager, said: “We would like to get as many groups involved as possible.”

“The events can take any form as long as there is an element of fire safety involved and they celebrate the ‘Full of life’ theme - for example, the money could be used for room hire, refreshments or prizes.”

He added: “We carry out a lot of work with older people and this is another way of getting fire safety messages across to this section of the community.”

Application forms can be obtained by emailing onfirefund@notts-fire.gov.uk, or calling engagement and partnerships officer Sally Savage on 0115 9670880.
