Supermarket staff joined pupils from Ordsall Primary School in a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening of a new look Co-op food store on Welbeck road, Ordsall.
To mark the occasion, store manager, Terry Reed, presented the children with a donation of 200 to go towards school funds.
"As a community retailer it is appropriate that we involve the community in our special events and we are delighted that our local school is playing a central role," said Mr Reed.
Renovations at the store are part of a nationwide attempt to improve the standard of service across the company's 4500 outlets in the UK.
As well as new dcor, a number of new policies are being implemented at the store. Most notable among these is the Co-operative group's decision to give its customers a share of its profits in cash, which can either be kept or donated to a local charity or worthy cause.
