TRAIN services were disrupted and Retford Road was closed after a lorry became stuck under a bridge on Monday.

Engineers worked for five hours to free the vehicle, which struck the railway bridge on the B6079 around 12pm.

A Network Rail spokesman said on Monday: “The vehicle is well and truly wedged under the bridge and our teams are having to cut it out.”

“That is what is taking such a long time. Normally in cases like this we can let the tyres down and remove the vehicle easily.”

“But in this case it is really lodged.”

Northern Rail services were suspended in both directions between Worksop and Retford, with rail replacement buses carrying passengers between Worksop and Lincoln Central.

The lorry was released just before 5pm.
