Lovers of classical and orchestral music are in for a massive treat this summer when Clumber Park hosts a Last Night of the Proms with the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and Aled Jones.

The National Trust park will resound to a host of classical tunes and well known show songs on Sunday 17th August.

People attending the concert are invited to bring their own chairs, food and drink to enjoy a picnic while listening to the music. It will top off a packed weekend of live music at Clumber Park.

On Friday 15th August legendary rockers Status Quo take to the stage supported by Toseland and The Strawbs.

And Saturday sees Flashback Festival descend with 80s stars like Billy Ocean, Kim Wilde, ABC, Jimmy Somerville, Go West and Midge Ure performing.

Sunday’s concert is an altogether more classical event. The Philharmonic Orchestra’s programme for a Last Night of the Proms usually includes well-loved classics such as Elgar’s Nimrod and Land of Hope and Glory alongside masters of the classics such as excerpts from Bizet’s Carmen, Tchaikovsky Polonaise and Strauss Radetzky March.

“There is something special about performing in the open air that cannot be recreated in a concert hall. I get a feeling that I’m so much closer to my audience which makes the performance personal,” said host and presenter Aled Jones, whose 25 year career spans singing, acting, writing, radio and TV presenting.

Neil Butkeratis from UK Events which is organising the festival said: “Aled is well known for his Classic FM radio show as well as his concert performances. We are therefore delighted that he has taken time out to host and perform at Clumber Park with The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.”

“We also have the added surprise of a yet-to-be-announced special guest which we know will delight people.”

Tickets are £29.95 adults, £22 children under 14. Under 5s go free but will need a pre-booked ticket. Call 0854 0756101 to book.
