It’s cheers to two kind-hearted workers at the Grafton Hotel pub in Worksop who have been noninated for this week’s Guardian Rose.
Landlady Suzi Hale nominated Kerry Marsden and Karen Hale for their sterling work in looking after the business after she fell seriously ill last year.
Suzi, 37, said is extremely grateful to the pair for their hard work, kindness and help in taking over the day-to-day running of the Gateford Road pub.
“I know I can leave things with them and the job will get done - it’s a real credit to them,” she said.
“I’m a very hands-on person with the business, but I know I can trust Kerry and Karen.”
“They know exactly what to do and it has taken a lot of pressure off me and my family.” Suzi went for an operation at Bassetlaw Hospital last November but developed serious complications and had to be rushed to Doncaster Royal Infimary for emergency treatment.
She is still having medical treatment but hopes to get the all-clear later this year and get back to the business which is going strength to strength with the Grafton Brewing Co.
Suzi said she has been ‘touched’ to have had such support from her staff and regulars which is helping her to get through the tough times.
“I thank my customers every day. They have given me cards and chocolates and lots of words of support,” she said.
“When you realise how pleased they are to have you back, it gives you a massive boost and it has definitely spurred me on to get better for them.”
Kerry, who has worked with Suzi for seve n years, said she and Karen were ‘surprised’ to receive the Rose.
Said Kerry: “It was really nice of Suzi and we do appreciate it.”
“She is a great boss and always looks after us. The real ale has really taken off andwe are proud to be part of something so great.”
