A Worksop woman who “goes out of her way” to make sure budding athletes can enjoy running in a safe and friendly environment has been honoured with a Guardian Rose.

Michele Harrop, who runs the junior section of Worksop Harriers with her husband Richard, was presented with the accolade for he services to the club in a surprise ceremony on Friday , February 12.

Liz Langley, who nominated Michelle for the Guardian Rose on behalf of all the club’s younger members, said: “Michele and Richard give up their time to run the harriers several times a week.

“Michele is the one who plans and organises the training sessions there.

“She also sorts out the teams for competitions and even organises lifts so that children who would normally be unable to attend the club get there safely.”

Worksop Harriers has been active in the town since 1949.

The club also runs women’s only and senior training sessions and participates in the Worksop half marathon.

Liz added: “Michele spends most of her spare time making Worksop Harriers a friendly, welcoming and fun place for all the children to enjoy athletics.”

Training sessions at Worksop Harriers junior section are held every Wednesday from 5pm to 6.30pm.
