Schoolgirl is champion

A RETFORD schoolgirl is celebrating after becoming a rounders champion.

Clara Petch, 12, is a ISA Northern Chamption after her school’s under 14 rounders team were crowned champions following a thrilling tournament involving some of the best of the independent school teams from the north of England.

Clara, who attends Hill House School in Doncaster, was bowler for the team who put on a fantastic display running out worthy winners.

They beat some notable names along the way, not least a 10-and-a-half to seven win in their last match against Hull Collegiate.

All of the girls put in a superb team performance and Clara’s contribution was made more remarkable by the fact that she was playing in an age group two years above her own.

Teacher Ms Hallam, said of the girls’ achievements: “The girls are dedicated, all round skilful sportswomen who play a great tactical game.”
