PUPILS from Ranby House School had a poignant and moving visit to the Holocaust Centre at Laxton recently.
Year 7 pupils have been studying Boy in The Striped Pyjamas as part of their English classes and so to learn more they visited the centre.
During their trip they had a talk from holocaust survivor Steven Mendelsson.
“The children gained an enormous amount from their visit and talk and it added to their understanding of the events of the holocaust and what it was like to be a Jewish child at that time,” said a Ranby House School spokesman.
“In addition to the visit to the Holocaust Centre, the children have had the opportunity to pack a suitcase as if they were going on the Kindertransport and to discuss with their families what they would wish to take.”
“Again, this has been a very moving and emotional experience for the pupils - having to decide what memorabilia of their family to take and what necessities they would require.”
