Editor’s Comment: Help for Heroes volunteers are heroes in themselves

Help for Heroes held their Colossal Cake Sale in Worksop last weekend and raised a whopping £1,500 for the charity.

Those who made cakes and volunteered on the day deserve all the praise that is heaped on them, but I’d like to single out two people for extra special praise.

The first is Second World War veteran Ken Beard. Despite being a ripe old 92 years of age Ken baked some cakes for the sale and was there to sell them on the day.

That sort of spirit and commitment is truly humbling and Ken is a true hero.

The second person I would like to single out is Tony Eaton who has been nothing short of magnificent in his role as H4H regional coordinator in recent years.

He has led from the front and his dedication and leadership has helped raise an enormous some of money for this wonderful charity.

I know for a fact that there are countless people (too many to mention here) across Worksop like Ken and Tony who work tirelessly on behalf of charities and other good causes.

I salute them all and the valuable work they do.
