Baby and toddler swimming company Puddle Ducks has raised an impressive £1,200 for local charities such as Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice with special fund-raising pyjama parties at their various pools, including in Dinnington.
Children taking part had fun showing off the life-saving skills they have learnt at their Puddle Ducks classes over the last few months.
Since opening in Doncaster in 2013 Puddle Ducks has taught hundreds of children across the area to swim.
Fun and bonding is at the heart of our classes, and because of this the children don’t even realise they’re learning to swim and are acquiring a skill that could save their lives,” said Nicola Cosdd from the Puddle Ducks group.
“Each term we hold a pyjama party where we have a real focus on fun, but there’s a serious message behind it.
“Being in water in clothes helps children to realise how it could feel if they got into trouble while out playing.
“In a controlled environment in a pool they can learn how to cope with this situation, so if it unfortunately happened out there in the real world, they’d be more equipped to deal with it.
“It’s always an incredibly proud day for both parents and teachers, and being able to raise over £1,200 for charities like Bluebell Wood at the same time really is the icing on the cake.
“We could not have done it without some very generous prize donations from The Earl of Doncaster, CAST and Doncaster Racecourse, whose fantastic prizes meant our raffle was a huge success.
“Some of the children were even sponsored to come in their pyjamas.
“It has been a great week”
Puddle Ducks has no minimum age requirement for its classes, and takes on babies from birth or as soon as mum (or dad) is ready to go in the water.
“Our classes are based on age, not ability, so that children are learning amongst their peers,” added Nicola.
