Dealer caught with 11 ounces of cannabis was ‘bulk buying for Christmas’

A cannabis dealer from Mansfield who was caught with 11 ounces of the drug had been stocking up for Christmas, a court heard.

Joshua Alan Whitehouse, 22, of Maltby Road, admitted possession with intent to supply and supplying cannabis between November 1 2014 and October 13 2015.

Police officers discovered the drugs along with weighing scales, deal bags and £4,590 in cash in Whitehouse’s bedroom on October 29.

Rosemary Wilde, prosecuting, said: “He was bulk buying before Christmas and expected that people would be buying more in time for Christmas.

“He started dealing as a way of making some fast, extra cash.”

The court heard he started dealing a year ago and would buy around seven ounces of cannabis every two weeks, paying £175 per ounce.

He used his phone to buy and sell the drug but re-set it before a police interview.

Morgan Hogarth, defending, said Whitehouse was of previous good character and had never been in trouble before.

An application for the cash was made under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Whitehouse was sent to Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on January 20.
