Police clamp down on motorcycles

Police have been clamping down on off road motorcycles and quad bikes in the Rother Valley west area.

Officers and PCSO’s have teamed up with Rotherham Council to crackdown on nuisance off-road vehicles.

The team patrolled in both marked and unmarked vehicles and those who evaded police at the time offence were visited by officers and dealt with.

Over the past few weeks, a number of off-road vehicle operations have taken place using the South Yorkshire Police helicopter, police off-road bikes and officers on bicycles and officers on foot and in vehicles.

Sergeant Alistair Stuart, from Brinsworth Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “People riding off road motorbikes within the community are a menace and impact on the quality of life for local residents, endanger pedestrians and other road users.”

“Not only will offender’s motorbikes be seized, but the rider will also be reported for offences such as no driving licence and no insurance. These offences not only carry a fine but also penalty points.”

“We will continue to proactively target off road motorbikes and will take a zero approach by prosecuting offenders.”

Sgt Stuart urged members of the public to help us reduce this anti social behaviour by contacting the SNT with any information or sightings of off-road vehicles, or there whereabouts, on 101 or by e-mail to rothervalleywestsnt@southyorks.pnn.police.uk.
