A MAN caught speeding on the A1 has failed in his bid to keep his driving licence.

Thomas Cox, 64, admitted driving at 68mph in the 50mph zone on the A1 at Elkesley on 9th December last year.

Worksop Magistrates’ Court heard that Cox, from Whitley Bay, would lose his licence because of the amount of penalty points he had totted up.

Cox told the court his licence was vital to him maintaining his business organising pool and dart tournaments around the country.

District judge Diane Baker was failed to be convinced and banned him from driving for a month - reducing it from six months.

He was also ordered to pay a £285 fine, £35 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.
