Community groups in Bassetlaw are being invited to bid for a share of £10,000 in funding to improve neighbourhoods and communities.

For the second year A1 Housing and the Bassetlaw Association of Tenants and Residents Associations (BATRA) are running their Dragons Den style event.

Community and voluntary groups will have the opportunity to make a short pitch to the BATRA dragons.

If the pitch impresses the dragons then that group can walk away with a share of the money.

Joan Linacre, chairman of BATRA said: “BATRA’s Den made such a difference to a number of local community groups last year and we are looking forward to seeing how we can help again.”

“We heard some fantastic and heart-warming stories at last year’s event and we are all looking forward to being impressed by the pitches from more deserving community groups.”

To be eligible to take part in BARTA’s Den, pitches to the dragons must be made on behalf of community and voluntary groups operating in Bassetlaw and they must have members who are A1 Housing tenants or dependents who reside with A1 Housing tenants.

Previous recipients of funding cannot be considered for this year’s event.

Groups must also support one of the following - to reduce anti-social behaviour, to reduce rent arrears, to support community development, to clean and enhance the appearance of estates, to promote access to training and development to improve life skills, communities working together to improve facilities, creating neighbourhoods people are proud of and create healthier and more active people and communities.

Joice Rennie, director of strategy and change at A1 Housing said: “A1 Housing is delighted to support BATRA’s Den and this funding can make a real difference to local community groups.”

“It’s also a great opportunity for our tenants and residents associations to help shape improvements to our neighbourhoods.”

Applications must be submitted by 14th February. Application forms and more information on eligibility can be obtained by calling 0800 590542.

Applicants who meet the full criteria will then be invited into the ‘den’ to pitch their case in front of the BATRA Dragons on Wednesday 5th March at Retford Town Hall.
