Appeal after Retford bookmakers robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man stole cash from the Betfred Bookmaker’s in Retford on Sunday 24th March.

A staff member was closing up when a masked man entered the Carolgate shop, grabbed her and demanded she hand over cash.

The man fled with a substantial amount of money in a plastic tray around 7.50pm.

He is around 5ft 4ins tall and spoke with a local accent. He wore all black, including a black scarf over his face, but his black jacket featured a white pattern.

There were no customers in the shop at the time of the robbery and the staff member was uninjured. No weapons were seen.

Detective Inspector Ash Wilson said: “A robbery of this kind is not a common occurrence in Retford and it appears the offender waited until the shop was about to close to strike.”

“We think he may well have discarded the plastic tray he used to carry the cash in after the robbery. Have you seen it? If so, call us.”

He added: “We are making enquiries in the local area, including reviewing CCTV. Patrols have also been stepped up in the town centre to provide reassurance.”

If you saw anything suspicious in the area around the time of the robbery, or have any information, contact Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
