The sound of one of the defining acts of the Britpop era in the mid 1990s is coming to the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe this autumn.

Ocean Colour Scene emerged at the time when the Britpop phenomenon was hitting top gear with albums like Moseley Schoals and Marchin’ Already.

And those days will be re-lived by two of the band members, Simon Fowler and Oscar Harrison in An Evening with Simon & Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene at The Baths Hall in October.

This year is Ocean Colour Scene’s 25th anniversary and their recent sell-out acoustic tour of the most prestigious concert halls of the UK was not only their most successful for 15 years, but also their best received, with ecstatic audience reactions every night.

Simon and Oscar from the band are continuing the theme with a tour of intimate seated venues, the perfect stages for their acoustic performances of all the big hits and anthems, including The Riverboat Song, The Circle, Traveller’s Tune, Hundred Mile High City and The Day We Caught The Train.

These shows are the latest chapter in a remarkable career that has seen Ocean Colour Scene rise from Breton shirt-wearing Stone Roses disciples to become one of Britpop’s biggest bands.

Their 1998 arena tour, for example, was the biggest by any UK group that year.

They also supported Oasis at their Knebworth House gigs in 1996.

A year earlier, the band had supported Oasis on tour after Noel Gallagher had heard a demo tape from the band prior to their breakthrough single, Riverboat Song.

Paul Weller was another to champion the band when he invited guitarist Steve Craddock to play on tour with him in 1993.

Simon Fowler also contributed vocals to Weller’s album Wild Wood.

In their 25 years together, Ocean Colour Scene enjoyed five top 10 albums, including hitting number one with Marchin’ Already, six top 10 singles and a mantelpiece full of awards.

But behind all the swagger and the style were great songs, with words and melodies that found their way into your head and heart.

It’s time to hear these songs again, stripped back but every bit as relevant and tuneful now as they were back then.

An Evening with Simon & Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene will take place at The Baths Hall on 21st October.

Tickets, priced £20 each (booking fee may apply, see website for details) are available now from the box office on 0844 8542776 or online at www.bathshall.co.uk

Please note this is an all seated, acoustic performance.
