This year’s Christmas lights celebrations are set to be bigger and better than ever before as Bassetlaw Council will add an extra sparkle to two special events.
The celebrations, taking place in Worksop on Saturday 24th November and Retford on Saturday 1st December, will include live stage performances from tribute bands Coldplace and Bruvvas Blue as well as local theatre groups, dance schools and Worksop Miners Welfare Brass Band.
Visitors will have the chance to win tickets to advanced screenings of Disney’s latest blockbuster Tinker Bell – Secret of the Wings courtesy of Savoy Cinemas.
There will also be a spectacular fire eating show and performances from the winner of Trax FM’s street entertainer competition before Great Britain Paralympian Crystal Lane flicks the switch that lights up the town and tree that will be placed in Old Market Square in Worksop and the Market Square in Retford.
Councillor David Pressley, portfolio holder for community prosperity said: “This year’s event promises to be one of the best ever and has something for all the family. We hope as many people as possible will be able to join us in this celebration and make it a very special countdown to Christmas.”
Proceedings will get underway at 1.30pm with the opening of the Christmas Market and music from Trax FM, along with other attractions such as a Santa’s grotto, fairground rides, a mobile climbing wall and a Christmas message from council chairman Ian Campbell.
The lights in both towns are expected to be turned on around 6pm.
