There was dancing in the streets of Retford recently when a popular event returned to the town.
Bassetlaw Council once again organised its Dance in Town workshop, which filled the town centre with a variety of styles.
Shoppers were treated to all kinds of dancing including belly dancing, Irish dancing, body-popping and Zumba, with many onlookers joining in the fun.
It was the second year that the event has been organised by the council’s Sports and Development and Fabulous Arts Team. A similar event was also held in Worksop town centre.
Alex Porter, the council’s exercise and physical activity development officer, said it was great to see everyone get involved.
“It’s only our second year and already it’s proving such a popular event with both performers and audiences,” he said.
“The crowd was bigger this year, the performances were even better and the applause and cheers from the crowd made for a real party atmosphere.”
At the Worksop event, golfer Lee Westwood was spotted in the crowd enjoying one of the performances.
“I was there with my daughter who dances with Donna Pressley Dance Academy,” said Karen Porter, who was in the audience. “I spotted Lee and asked for a photo.”
“He was lovely and very obliging. It’s nice that he still keeps in touch with the community and comes to this kind of event.”
