This year has been good to Worksop College student Oliver Dane – but he’s planning on much bigger and better things in 2015.

The runner, who picked up the Bassetlaw Sports Awards Sportsman of the Year aged 14 to 18 prize last weekend, is a county 800m champion and a Worksop College record holder.

He finished fourth in the English Schools Championships in Birmingham and was overjoyed to win the Bassetlaw Sports award, beating a quality field of six other sportsmen.

He said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to win the award, it’s fantastic how we recognise all sports and bring them together with talent from across Bassetlaw. It makes the evening quite special and memorable.”

“My best achievement last year was exceeding my target at the English Schools, it was the highlight of last season.”

The Worksop-born athlete believes the Sports Award and an impressive 2014 will stand him in good stead for 2015, when he hopes to eclipse 2014’s achievements.

“I’m hoping to get a medal in the English Schools, qualify for the Nationals and maybe medal there as well.”

“Getting into the top five of the UK rankings is another one of my goals,” he added.
