Downhill mountainbike racing professional Steve Peat was the star attraction as a new bike shop officially opened in Worksop this week.
The British, European and World champion cut the ribbon on Joe’s Bikes, a store opened by a former racer, Joe Whitaker.
Some of the town’s cycling community made appearances at the shop on Claylands Industrial Estate, and a group of local kids got to meet their hero Peat.
Speaking to the Guardian he said: “I’ve known Joe for a long time, so it’s great to be able to come down and open his new shop and support him in a new venture.”
Whitaker’s love of cycling began at the tender age of three, and he’s delighted to stay involved in the sport through the shop.
“The idea has come from necessity really, there’s not really much in the area that services cyclists in general,” he said.
