Reigning champions Tuxford cruised into the semi-finals of this year’s Bassetlaw Primary Schools Cricket Championship with a 153-97 win over Sir Edmund Hillary.
They will now meet St John’s in the semi-finals to be held on 14th July at Bridon Ordsall.
St John’s, a perennial force in all Bassetlaw school sports, have surprisingly never won this tournament with their best efforts coming when they reached the final in successive years in the 1995 and 1986.
Beckingham, this year’s Small Schools Football ‘Champion of Champions’, are aiming to make it a two sport double after reaching the semi-finals in the closest of the quarter finals with a 182-174 defeat of Gamston.
Their opponents will be St. Peter’s, Gringley who qualified after a 170-108 defeat of St. Anne’s.
Gringley’s success is not restricted to the Bassetlaw competition as they have also qualified for the semi-finals of the County Small Schools Championship following their quarter-final victory over Haggonfields.
Ordsall Girls have also reached a County semi-final after a thrilling one run defeat of St John’s Girls and will now meet the Good Shepherd R.C. School of Gedling on the ground of Southwell Cricket Club.
