The first round of the Sports Centre League got underway at Water Meadows, with Retford taking on Worksop, Newark Mansfield, Sherwood and newly promoted Bramcote.
In the first 12events Retford struggled to achieve anything higher than a third place finish, bar Oliver Taylor’s early second in the 13/u 100m backstroke.
Undeterred the next 12 events saw the Retford team gain ground after two stunning victories from Emma Davies in the 13/u 50m butterfly and 100m breaststroke.
Tom Atkinson claimed an exciting first, beating Worksop by 1/100 second in the 15/u 50m butterfly.
Danny Gagg had to settle for second by 1/100 second in the open 100m IM.
Thomas Deeley and Beth Davies took two further second places in the 11/u 50m breaststroke and open 100m freestyle respectively.
The 9/u mixed relay team of Ben Atkinson, Isabella Hobson-Corbett, Jacob Clements and Mia Kay took second, followed by another Atkinson win in the 15/u 100m backstrokeand victory in the open 100m backstroke.
Not to be outdone, Davies also managed a hat-trick, winning the 13/u 100m freestyle.
Taylor bettered his earlier result, finishing first in the boys event.
In a nail biting end to the evening Retford managed to hold onto second place.
Final points: 1st Sherwood 204 points, 2nd Retford 177, 3rd Worksop 174, 4th Bramcote 166, 5th Mansfield 135, 6th Newark 83.
