A Bassetlaw cricket specialist has announced a sponsorship deal with Notts and England Under 19 bowler Luke Wood.
Batting 4 6 will be providing the former Cuckney Cricket Club youngster with equipment this season, as he looks to continue his rapid rise in the sport.
Wood, 19, is a Worksop lad who went to Portland Comprehensive, and was called up for the England Under 19 squad last February.
He went on to make his first-class debut for Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge in September, taking his first first-class wickets in the same match.
A spokesperson for Retford cricket company Batting 4 6 paid tribute to their new associate: “Luke’s fantastic debut season encouraged Nottinghamshire to reward him with a professional contract; a testament to his talent, hard work and tenacity.”
With recent figures showing almost 850,000 adults playing the sport each year in the UK, the English Cricket Board is looking to increase participation.
Batting 4 6 are keen to play their part by encouraging youngsters to take up the sport.
They offer coaching in schools in conjunction with local clubs and cricketers.
As part of his affiliation with Batting 4 6, Wood will offer his services as a coach on the company’s winter coaching programme.
Director Michelle Shevill is delighted with the arrangement: “We see getting kids involved in the game as a huge factor. Luke is such a brilliant role model. He’s inspiring a whole generation of local, young cricketers.”
