Loss for Standard League side in important Trophy fixture

Beckingham’s Gainsborough Standard Bowls League team only had one fixture last week, but it was an important one at league leaders Scotter 1 in the Hazel Lawrence Trophy.

They came up against a strong team and could only manage to win the pairs, losing in the singles, triples and fours to go down 71-41.

With the Isle of Axholme Pensioners’ Northern team not having a match, it was left to the Central Section players who were victorious at home to Wheatley A, taking all six league points.

They have now picked up 26 points out of a possible 36 in their last six fixtures to move into the top half of the table.

As the Standard was going to print the club were due to have matches in the sle of Axholme Evening League Knockout Cup and league.
